Beyond These Stars — Frequently Asked Questions

Direct, verified answers to the most common mechanics questions in Beyond These Stars v1.0.

Peeps will only work at workplaces within 16 hex tiles of their Accommodation Building (Hut, House, Apartment, or Homestead). While they will walk farther to fetch construction materials, any workplace beyond 16 tiles of housing remains unstaffed. Build a satellite Hut cluster near distant mines or terraforming sites.
Before you research Ore Smelter and craft Copper for Power Lines (1 Copper + 1 Wood), buildings that require power—such as the Ore Smelter, Toolsmith, and Metal Smelter—conduct electricity directly by touching one another. As long as one building in a contiguous touching cluster touches a Burner Generator, the entire cluster receives power.
The Home Spaceship produces Wood, Stone, Iron, and Tools with zero pollution, but it also generates zero by-products. To obtain Wood Waste (for Compost), Soot, or Slag, you must construct specialized buildings (Woodcutter, Ore Smelter, Toolsmith) and pause or deactivate those corresponding production tasks inside the Home Spaceship.
Breathable atmosphere is generated by watered Forests up to 4 hex tiles away; dry Forests produce zero oxygen. Use the Landscaper to dig a waterway channel from Kewa's glacier water toward dry Forests to revive them immediately, or produce Saplings at the Tree Nursery (from Compost) to plant new Forests along the perimeter.
Kewa is a sentient creature with their own Health, Happiness, and Energy needs. Traveling consumes Energy, and if Kewa is hungry or overheated, they will autonomously detour into Debris Fields or Asteroid Belts to eat (which can pelt your settlement with debris) or swim to a cold sector to cool down. Keep Kewa's biome fertile and low-pollution so they follow your requests.
